Dueling Lead Guitars Wrap Up Blues Jam

At the end of the JammingOut at HOB jam Wednesday night, Fuzzy Rankins showed up and played with Lafayette Falkquay, both of them incredible lead guitarists.  Here they are having a fun time with Fuzzy singing Stop Following Me Around.  On stage with them are Billy Wear on drums, Kevin Cooper on bass and Justin Fools on harp.  It was a great way to end the night.

Soul Organization Mixes It Up at SpeakEasy

I have wanted to hear this band for a while, and I finally saw them the other night at the Gaslamp SpeakEasy.  They will be back there again at the end of June.  This is Doc Holiday’s organ-influenced and soul-infused sound that runs the gamut of jazz, blues, rock and soul – with John Hunt (a fabulous guitarist) and Billy Wear on drums.  Everyone seemed to really enjoy them.

There was a wide mix of tune genres, and these 2 videos just give you a taste of what these guys play.

This first video highlights Doc on the organ in the song A Real Good ‘Un.

And in this video, John Hunt does a fabulous medley of cover songs Susie Q and Born on the Bayou.

Tuesday Night Turns Into Lafayette and Friends

Every Tuesday night Lafayette Falkquay and his blues band plays at the Gaslamp SpeakEasy.  On drums is Billy Wear and on bass is Ronnie Baumslater.  This Tuesday he was also joined by harmonica player, Doug Camphuis (who played with Lafayette a number of years ago), doing one of Lafayette’s signature cover songs… Black Cat Bone.

A former drummer also stopped in to play with the band, Frank Alverez, and here he is playing with other friends who came in that night: Fuzzy Rankins on guitar and Ms Silky Sol (Red Afro Queen) as they perform cover song Rock Me Baby.

And later on Ronnie took over the mike to sing Skin Tight.  Not exactly blues, but rounded out the evening perfectly.

Lafayette Doing His Thing

This is a good video of Lafayette Falkquay and his blues band performing cover song Black Cat Bone this past Saturday night.  Doc Holiday was playing keyboards, Ronnie Baumslater was on bass (can’t fix that red light that’s on him unfortunately), and Billy Wear was on drums.

Wednesday Jam Highlights at HOB

If you love blues, the Wednesday night jam at HOB downtown, hosted by JammingOut.net, the local blues society (BLUSD) and House of Blues, is one of the great jams around town.

Here we have Justin Fools on harmonica and singing cover song No Particular Place to Go, supported by Dave Keefer and Judd Austin on guitar, Dale Davis on bass and Lisa Viegas.

The evening ended with a little fun on stage as Lafayette Falkquay sings cover song Mustang Sally, along with Junya Isogawa and Rich Giglio on guitar, Kevin Cooper on bass and Billy Wear on drums.
