Wednesday Jam Highlights at HOB

If you love blues, the Wednesday night jam at HOB downtown, hosted by JammingOut.net, the local blues society (BLUSD) and House of Blues, is one of the great jams around town.

Here we have Justin Fools on harmonica and singing cover song No Particular Place to Go, supported by Dave Keefer and Judd Austin on guitar, Dale Davis on bass and Lisa Viegas.

The evening ended with a little fun on stage as Lafayette Falkquay sings cover song Mustang Sally, along with Junya Isogawa and Rich Giglio on guitar, Kevin Cooper on bass and Billy Wear on drums.

San Diego Blues

San Diego Blues Calendar: April 7th-13th

Blues Calendar - Apr 7There is a lot of blues happening in the greater downtown area this week, and there is a bit more than usual out on Shelter Island (Kona Kai and Humphrey’s Backstage) and at Tio Leo’s off of Morena Blvd.

Morry Sochat & the Special 20s is a Chicago blues & swing band out on tour, and they are coming to San Diego on Friday to play at the Gaslamp SpeakEasy.  They should be a lot of fun, especially if you are a swing dancer. Unfortunately I’ll miss them.

I head out of town Friday for 10 days, but I hope to catch many of these bands and get up some more video before I go.  If you get any good video of these bands in the next couple weeks, please email me with the YouTube link and I’ll get it up on the site.

Jammin at HOB Wed Night Jam

There was a good mix of musicians at the weekly blues jam at House of Blues again this week.  I got there a bit late, and missed a lot of it.  But I did catch Tony Garrick singing Freddie King’s cover song I’m Tore Down (and playing the drums) along with Dale Davis on bass, Nicholas Butterfield on guitar and Junya Isogawa on guitar (who you see first in this video).  Enjoy as I did!

San Diego Blues Calendar: Mar 31st – Apr 6th

Blues Calendar - Mar 31It looks like Kona Kai will be open for two more weeks before they close for remodeling, and this week Backwater Blues Band will be playing there on Wednesday evening.

There is also a tribute to Muddy Waters by the 145th Street local blues band at 98 Bottles on Saturday, which should be lots of fun.

And of course, there are jams Monday – Thursday around town and blues playing most nights at Patrick’s and the SpeakEasy in the Gaslamp.
